英語 – Hiroki Sugi

一月の最終週、僕はBerlinに来た４ヶ月前から、3回目の風邪を引いていた。
寝込んだ三日間の間にKindleの本を巡り、思い立って、大好きだった作家の本を久しぶりに読む。

最近書かれた新しいエッセイも見つける。
十数年前に読んだエッセイには無かった奥さんや息子の存在があり、同じ時を生きて、一緒に歳を重ねているんだな、と感じさせられる。

The last week of January, I was sick again. I was randomly picking some books on Kindle in bed, and ended up stuck with rereading my favourite author after 10+ years.

I also found that he’d just published a new essay a couple of years ago. I read his old essay when I was into his books, but there was no wife or kid in it which is in the new essay. That reminds me of that he lives in the same world and time as mine.

19. Super Bowl スーパーボウル

Be prepared yourself for virus, nevertheless you’re in Japan or not.

It was such a lovely week. One of my friends in London visited Berlin for work, then we hung out with some of my other friends in Berlin, having wine, beer, and tea. It’s always nice to catch up with old friends, we had a tight hug and hope to see each other sometime soon.

I also had my birthday party on 23rd. I invited some of my best friends in Berlin, and had a small party at my friend’s with nice food and drink he made. Since many of my friends were barista, I got so much beans / tea leaves as birthday gifts.

My diary reminds me of my birthday party in London last year. I had a big party since I wanted to introduce among my friends, my birthday was a good excuse to do so. That is surprising it’s been only a year since then. I’ve faced so much stuff in the year. I feel myself more relaxed than me last year, and stable to achieve long-term goals.

とても素敵な一週間だった。
ロンドンからは友人が、撮影の仕事でベルリンに来た。
僕のベルリンでの友人も交え、一緒にワインを飲んだりビールを飲んだり、お茶を飲んだり。
いつだって、旧友との再会は嬉しい。
最後は「またすぐ会おう」とかたいハグをして別れる。

同じくして、23日は僕の誕生日だった。
友人宅でバースデーパーティーを開かせてもらう。
彼がお酒や料理を作ってくれ、僕はこのベルリンの生活で仲良くなれた人たちを集めて、みんなでワイワイ楽しく話す。
僕の友人はバリスタが多いため、沢山のコーヒー豆やお茶の葉をプレゼントにもらう。

日記を開くと去年ロンドンでしたバースデーパーティのことが書かれている。
僕は友人同士を紹介したかった為、沢山の友人を誘って大きなパーティを開いた。
あれからまだ一年しか経っていないなんて、信じられない。
この一年沢山のことを経験したせいだろう、体感では3年分くらいに感じている。
去年あのパーティを開いた頃よりも僕は、安定感を持ってコツコツ長い目標にチャレンジできるように感じている。
これは成長の一種とも呼べるんだろう。

Yuri Shimaoka is a freelance dancer based in Berlin. She started learning ballet at 3, and came to Berlin as soon as she graduated from a university in Tokyo.
